Yvonne's Visit

1998 our Food Forest was established. Yvonne was one of the main people who provided knowledge and support in setting up our Food Forest. There are many different varieties of food plants that are regularly eaten by the students at Peria. At the moment we are eating peaches, figs and grapes. Yvonne came to remind us of the important rules of the Food Forest, keep on the path, if you pick it you eat it, don't climb fruit trees, be careful when picking fruit.

Rata seedlings in the green houseShadehouse - We have over 400 mixed seedlings growing happily in our shadehouse.
Our Rata Project - The Rata is a New Zealand Native tree. Sadly for the Rata the opposum and land clearance has meant that some species of rata (The Northern Rata) have become endangered. Peria School in 2007 decided to do something about this situation. With funding from WWF for specialist hours and Mazda NZ Ltd to purchase tools and potting mix students propogated Rata.
Local nurseyman Chris Nillson has been the driving force behind this great project.
