Tuesday the 4th of November, Hori, Zara, Tui and Mereana went to Waitangi as part of the Enviroschools program Peria is part of. It was only open to year 4 and above.
Schools from across the North were represented with a second day being held at Marsden cove, Ruakaka on Thursday.
There were 4 areas for the day. Paddling in a waka up the Waitangi river and learning some of the history and protocols involved. Being part of a team learning how to cope with a whale stranding. A session on safe boating and watercraft and a science section where invasive marine animals were identified and even dissected.
The kids excelled with their questions and even received prizes for their contributions to the days lessons.
We now have 4 budding marine biologists keen to share their stories and pictures with the rest of the school.
Zara came home very excited about all the things they had done. Sounded like an awesome day. Go the enviro team!
